nucleosynthesis with unstable nuclei

what qualitative changes would there be in the abundance of light elements if (1) neutrons had a shorter life-time or if (2) deuterium would be unstable?

1 comment:

  1. in both cases it would be more difficult to generate heavier nuclei: (1) would imply that there are less neutrons at the beginning of nucleosynthesis and less deuterium would be formed, and (2) would mean that there's a race in helium-4 formation from deuterium against decay, leading to a smaller helium abundance.
